LIMQG had it's February meeting a week earlier than normal because SOME people are headed to QuiltCon this week! (Your faithful correspondent is not jealous in anyway, no sireee.)
Show and Share had some lovely pieces, including a Sonia Delaunay inspired quilt, a gorgeous rainbow quilt from Julie Okwit that she quilted on a domestic machine!, a bag using an "orphan block", and a very cheerful jelly-roll rug. I see a Member Spotlight soon I think! For this month's member spotlights, Lyn showed us the technique for her gorgeous and functional beach totes. The secret is deer mesh from Home Depot! Louise gave a lecture and introduction to her process for her gorgeous thread paintings. It was so interesting to hear about her process and get close up looks at some of her pieces, including her very first one (which is so gorgeous you'd never believe that it was the first time she tried the technique). One piece has the very clever idea of a pocket to keep the reference photo in, which might be a good idea for documenting other types of quilts if you have specific inspiration or info that you wish to keep with the piece. Our March meeting will feature a lecture by Joyce Fischer, a quilt historian and appraiser who will lecture on 100 years of Quilting, and will be able to appraise 2 quilts for members. If you have a quilt you wish to be appraised email Mario at [email protected] or Colleen at [email protected] as soon as possible.
