For our November meeting we had the wonderful Giucy Giuce give a lecture and trunk show, as well as show off his Quantum line of fabrics. So glad to have such wonderful inspiration at our meetings!

We had a great 2nd meeting!
Mario kicked things off with distributing the 2019 Quilter's Planner, such great tools! Then gave a run down of guild business, including a recap of the very well received lecture and Trunk Show for the Long Island Quilter's Society on October 15th. Kim Smith gave a great lecture about the roots and inspirations of Modern Quilting and then she and Mario displayed the beautiful quilts lent by our members. Check out our Instagram (@limqg) for more photos! After that we moved onto show and and share, which included a lovely quilt by new member Nellie, a baby quilt by Lorraine, an improv piece by Louise that was a chance to work on curves and Nancy's cozy Minky backed quilt. Then, we had 2 Member workshops, highlighting some of the hidden (or not so hidden!) talents of our members. Nancy shared her techniques and hints for fussy cutting, including tips for getting the most out of your fabric, including motifs that may have been cut into when fussy cutting something near by. Mario discussed his technique for getting all of your dimensional prints to match up when paper piecing complex patterns. I believe he will be posting more about that on his social media accounts, so keep an eye out, it's a great way of using the prints. Our next meeting is November 14th and new members are always welcome! Our new President, Mario Mulea kicked off our 2018-2019 season to a great start. We had a few more completed entries for our UFO (Un-Finished Objects for those non-crafters) Challenge from the Spring. Then we had some beautiful show and shares including Kim Soper's article in the Sept/Oct 10 issue of Modern Patchwork Magazine. Yay Kim! After that we moved on to discussions of the Charity Quilt Challenge that we are making for QuiltCon this year. The theme is this year is Small Piecing, but I'm going to keep those pictures under wraps for right now! Next meeting is October 17th, 2018! September 12, 2018

Thank you to the committee chairpersons for volunteering to lead LIMQG into another Modern Quilting year. Looking forward to a Great and Amazing 2018-2019! Dear Quilters and LIMQG Members,
I hope you had an enjoyable summer filled with fun, family and friends. While there have been no LIMQG meetings over the summer I can assure you your board has had several meetings and have outlined and planned an exciting 2018-2019 quilting season. All the board members are 100% dedicated to nurturing and expanding the group’s community outreach and charity involvement. First up we have our first trunk show presentation for the members of Long island Quilting Society on October 15, 2018. I can tell you as a 2 year member of LIQS their membership is very excited for our show and talk about modern quilting. In fact, 3 members of LIQS are now members of LIMQG and see the benefit and similarities of our diverse quilting styles. Please make sure you submit a quilt for the show and if you have, please bring your quilt to the September meeting so it can be cataloged and added to the presentation in time. ALL work I have seen in our group qualifies as Modern Quilting and will be welcome with opened arms. Many changes have been made to the Modern Quilt Guild website (www.themodernquiltguild.com) and as paid LIMQG member you have full access to its resources, education and inspiration. As you know our “Comfort” quilt is on the QuiltCon website and I sent out an email last week—- sorry—-I could not wait until the September meeting I was so excited. (LOL) Please remember we have an adjusted first meeting date of September 12th at the Dix Hills Arts League so as to not interfere with the Jewish holidays. I look forward to seeing my quilting family and friends at our first meeting and unveiling our 2019 Charity Quilt for QuiltCon. Sincerely, Mario J. Mulea Pres, LIMQG |
